Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (BIACH&RI) was awarded certification of Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (IS OHSAS 18001:2007). It is first certified hospital in Hyderabad on occupational health and safety management systems. Besides this, the hospital’s department of Laboratory Medicine got accreditation from National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratory (NABL). Speaking to media, the chairman of the hospital Nandamuri Balakrishna described it as milestone in its efforts to deliver international quality health care to the poor and needy patients. He praised the efforts of hospital staff in achieving these certifications which has put the hospital’s name on the international health-care map.
“With this certification, BIACH&RI can provide more safety and qualitative patient care delivery process. It fosters a hygienic and hazard free environment for both patients as well as staff in the hospital” feels Balakrishna. The purpose of the OHSASH is to focus on occupational hygiene, patient care delivery, surgical procedures, occupational medicine, diagnostics, work ergonomics of employees, chemical safety and radiation etc. Dr Sudha Murthy, Department of pathology said getting NABL accreditation is a proud moment for BIACH&RI. She felt that it is a breakthrough development in providing diagnosis services for tests to cancer patients. “The accreditation by NABL is not a onetime phenomenon. It should have to be ratified once in every two years to be eligible for continuing the accreditation “says Dr Sudha Murthy.
