With the Aadhaar enrolment process proceeding at a snail’s pace in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts, the authorities are slated to extend the deadline by a few more weeks. March 15 is the deadline for linking the Aadhaar card with the LPG connections for the consumer to avail of the subsidy. Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Anantapur, Chittoor, and East Godavari are the five districts from the state where the pilot project is being implemented.
According to sources in the oil companies, as of Tuesday, only 28% of the LPG consumers of the three companies of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd and Indian Oil Corporation in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts have got their Aadhaar cards linked with their gas connections while the number is 40% in the other three districts in the state. “Therefore, we will have no option but to extend the deadline beyond March 15 in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts,” said the sources.
However, Anantapur, Chittoor and East Godavari will join Wardha (Maharashtra), Mysore (Karnataka) and Puducherry in becoming the first districts in the country where the release of the LPG subsidy will be linked to Aadhaar cards. “Since nearly half the number of LPG consumers has got their gas connections linked to the Aadhaar cards in Anantapur, Chittoor and East Godavari, there will be no extension of the deadline in these three districts,” they said.
